Packing for a Two Month Trip

hiking boots for travelling

Step Two

Dear Friends,
I hope this letter finds you well. I mentioned in the last letter that my next step would be shoes. I wrote that I would be shopping for them and I did. The type of shoes I was looking for was something that I could walk a long distance in comfortably and neutral in color to go with everything. I finally decided on three pairs, two of which are new. My original thought was to shop on Amazon, but because shoes need to be tried on, I decided to go to the store, Famous Footwear, instead. I am so glad that I did! I found comfortable hiking boots that are lightweight, and in a neutral color to match the long dresses that I am taking. These boots are feminine enough to look good with two of my long skirts and one pair of hiking pants that I decided I needed. The brand of these boots is Timberland, which is a respected brand name in footwear. I also purchased a can of Waterproofer so I could waterproof the boots. This is a good idea to protect the boots from moisture. The directions highly recommend spraying new boots with two applications, letting the boots dry in between.

So, this is what I did before wearing them outside. I then wore them all day Sunday to make sure they fit right and were comfortable. I am very pleased with them. These boots cost only $88.99, before tax, which I think is a very good price. When I looked online for the best hiking boots and walking shoes I was seeing prices like $160.00, so am pleased that these only cost what they did. The Waterproofer cost $9.99, before tax.

I also purchased a good-quality pair of walking sandals by Dr. Scholl’s. They are called the “Adelle Sandal”, and the color is “Malt Taupe Suede”. This is a very neutral color and will go with all my dresses. These shoes were on sale for 59.99, which again I think is a bargain for a good quality walking shoe.

The last pair of shoes I am taking is my trusted “Mary Jane” shoes. I bought them back in 2019 and from the day I bought them, they have been comfortable. They have a slightly raised heel, with a no-skid sole and a strap that goes over the top of the foot. When I see them, “classic”, comes to mind and I wear them to church and whenever I dress up. The brand is Dansko. I will have these for formal nights onboard the ship.

So, my shoes are decided on and I have added them to my growing pile to pack. Next, I need to find good quality socks. Do you know how hard it is to find good socks that actually fit? -And you need good socks that fit to hike in! That is my next quest; to find some good quality socks. That will be in next weeks letter along with a list of accessories, must have documentation, and other items to make the trip perfect. The packing pile is growing! Until next week-

Yours in Christ Light- Jody
